Police request public's help in murder investigation; council approves add'l funds for police

The Minneapolis Police Department announced in a press release Friday, May 11, that they are asking the public for help locating a car connected to the investigation into the May 3 murder of David Hankins at 1118 Irving Ave. N. Police say the vehicle is a 1999 tan/beige Chevy Tahoe with Minnesota license plate TYG 179. Anyone who sees this vehicle should call 911 immediately.

In other police news, the Minneapolis City Council today approved the Police Department's request for $750,000 in overtime funding to pay for additional police officers in high-crime areas from now through October 2007. Two-thirds of the money, or $500,000, will go to the downtown area and the rest, $250,000, will be divided between the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Precincts.
