Fundraiser to fight asthma at The Eagles Club — Wed., May 23

The Eagles Club, 2507 S. 25th St., will host a fundraiser on Wednesday, May 23 to help find a cure for asthma. The event will include a silent auction, a chocolate buffet and door prizes. Auction items include a vintage sable fur, a TCP golf package, a pampered chef package, Minnesota Wild memorabilia, paintings, dance lessons, restaurant gift certificates and more.

Open house for public comment on Cedar-Riverside development — Sat., May 19

The City of Minneapolis has issued the following press release:

The City of Minneapolis, Department of Community Planning and Economic Development, is developing a small area plan to guide future development and growth in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood. A public meeting is set to engage the community in a planning exercise, designed to help determine future development strategies for the neighborhood. The event will provide a hands-on exercise for participants to explore alternative redevelopment scenarios for the neighborhood and will be evaluated for financial feasibility as well. The end result will be input for the plan document, which will provide guidance for redevelopment in the neighborhood. With the permission of property owners, case studies will be developed for specific sites that are identified as important.

Bike or walk to work on Friday, May 18; two Bridgeland rides scheduled

On Friday, May 18, two separate groups of bicyclists will leave the Bridgeland area bound for a bike/walk day event at the Hennepin County Government Plaza in downtown Minneapolis.

The early morning rides leave the Birchwood Cafe, 3311 E. 25th St., at 7:15 a.m. and the intersection on Franklin Avenue and East River Parkway at 7 a.m., respectively. Riders will follow an experienced biker to the event, which begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 8:30 a.m. The event includes a band, breakfast, gifts and vendor booths with information about goods and services. All are welcome.

Public forum on changes to Comprehensive Plan Thursday, May 17

The city of Minneapolis is seeking public input on its revision of the Comprehensive Plan — also known as the Minneapolis Plan — the document that guides the long-term vision for the city.

The Comprehensive Plan is the document that guides the growth and physical development of the city, outlining a policy framework for planning, zoning and development. It addresses jobs, transportation, parks, open spaces and water resource management, according to a description from the city of Minneapolis. It was last updated in 2000.

Public forum on re-use of U of M Music Education Building — May 14

The University of Minnesota will host an open forum to discuss the future of the now-unused Music Education Building at 147 Pillsbury Drive, next to the footbridge near University Avenue and Southeast 14th Street.
