U student reports of late-night intruder
A University of Minnesota student was the victim of “criminal sexual conduct/molesting” at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, according to a public safety alert from the University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD).
The victim reported that she felt someone touch her as she slept in her room in Middlebrook Hall. When she responded, the assailant fled from her room. The room door was unlocked.
The victim was unable to give a description; her roommate was also sleeping in the room but did not awaken during the incident. This is the third incident of sexual assault/conduct on or near campus in the last three weeks.
As of the time of this posting, no arrests have been made. The Bridge will update this story as more information becomes available.
The University Police Department has issued a public safety alert on the Twin Cities campus:
Students are reminded of the following:
Protect yourself and your belongings.
Always lock your door.
Call 911 immediately if you are the victim or witness to a crime, or if you see suspicious activity or people.
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Walk in well-lit areas and do not walk alone. If you cannot find someone to walk with, call the Campus Escort service at 612-624-WALK for a free security escort.
Document information about the suspect for police (i.e. clothing descriptions, facial features, piercings or tattoos, speech, etc.)
Carry minimal amounts of valuables
Keep written records of valuables, including model and serial numbers, in a safe place
When threatened with a weapon, it is best not to resist. Your personal safety is more important than a lost wallet or cell phone.
