The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved in late March Sunday hours for 13 libraries, including East Lake and the Downtown Central library.

The Sunday hours are noon–5 p.m., beginning June 1. The expanded hours — dubbed “Ballpark Sundays” in a Hennepin County press release — were made possible by revenues from the Twins’ stadium ballpark tax. Up to $2 million per year of that sales tax revenue, in excess of amounts needed for the ballpark’s debt service, may be used to add hours at Hennepin County libraries.
