Southside Soul captures sounds of South Minneapolis

On the local stage, our fellow community newspaper Southside Pride has created a collection of South Minneapolis music, Southside Soul, Vol. 1, which naturally features Bridge-area artists, including Papa John Kolstad and Clint Hoover, Cadillac Kolstad, and even an ensemble of 140 kids from Seward Montessori School singing Civil Rights anthems.

In a recent online review, Twin Cities Daily Planet Arts Editor Jay Gabler wrote that the CD’s producers “cast a wide net: the disc includes everything from beat poetry to rock to gospel to folk. The selection is tasteful without being bland, and the disc does indeed feel as loose and fun as a backyard party.”
A CD release party took place March 29 at McMahon’s Pub, 3001 E. Lake St. Copies are free with any purchase of local music at Cheapo music stores, wrote Gabler.
