Sign up for park programs, community ed

With spring here and summer right around the corner, registration is underway for a variety of activities for kids and adults alike through the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) and community education.

Signups for summer sports are going on now, and registration for other summer recreation programs — including environmental programs, fishing, arts and crafts, ceramics, baton, photography, tumbling, Hip Hop, cooking and more — begins April 19. Dates, fees and age-groups vary by park; you can find more information or register online at www.minneapolisparks.org, or by calling 612-230-6400 or your local recreation center. Participants can register for some summer activities in person at the parks, starting at 9 a.m. on April 19.

Community education spring classes begin April 7 and later at Pratt and other locations. As always, there are numerous courses to interest just about everyone. Highlights at Pratt include classes to commemorate Minnesota’s sesquicentennial this summer, a Prospect Park history taught by Mary Alice Kopf and Susan Larson-Fleming, and a “Glendale Reunion of Friends Old and New.” Watch for course catalogs in the mail and call
612-668-1100, or visit www.mplscommunityed.com for more information.

Finally, it’s not too late to sign up for spring leagues and ongoing afterschool programs such as Van Cleve Park’s Recreation Plus Child Care. Practices begin for Van Cleve baseball, tee-ball and “four-pitch” at the end of April.
