Get ready for more noise from 35W bridge construction
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDoT) is warning residents living near the 35W bridge site to expect more noise during this next phase of construction.
Starting this week, steel supports known as H-piles will be installed on the north side of the river, and this will generate noise and vibrations in the immediate vicinity for approximately three days. MNDoT says the procedure will involve drilling and vibrating, which will be much less disturbing than the pile driving that was done this past November.
In addition to the noise from the installation of the H-piles, there will be noise generated this week from concrete crushing, as concrete from the old 35W roadway is crushed to form an aggregate base that will be used to form the new roadway. The crusher will generate noise including a low, steady hum and back-up alarms. Both the pile installation and the concrete crushing will take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday–Saturday.
MNDoT also announced a milestone in the bridge construction phase: the last footing of the bridge, at Pier 3, was completed this week, which means that the bridge is now officially “out of the ground,” according to MNDoT.
