Bring your sweet tooth to the Mill City Museum — Feb. 9–10
This month, the Mill City Museum is seeing red — in a good way. The weekend before Valentine’s Day, the museum is hosting two Valentine-themed guest chef events, featuring several of the Twin Cities’ most talented bakers and confectioners.
Sweetheart Chocolates
On Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m., local entrepreneur Brian T. McElrath will reveal a few of the secrets behind making everyone’s favorite Valentine’s Day confection: chocolate. The chef-turned-chocolatier is known for his specialty truffles. “I think we can absolutely promise that Brian will have something incredible,” Museum Manager Laura Salveson said. McElrath’s gourmet chocolate company — B.T. McElrath Chocolatier, Inc. — is based out of the Como neighborhood.
Baking for Lovers
The following day, Feb. 10, Kim Ode and Klecko from the Norse Baking Institute will deliver three 40-minute demonstrations (beginning at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.) on scone, madeleine and biscotti-making. Working from the museum’s baking lab, Ode (founder of the Norse Baking Institute) and Klecko (head baker for St. Agnes Baking Company) will dazzle guests with their custom-baked creations. Everyone in attendance will receive recipes to take home. Continuing in the spirit of giving, there will be plenty of samples to munch on, Salveson assured us.
Museum admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and college students, $4 for children ages 6–17, and free for Minnesota Historical Society members and children under 5.
