Police accepting nominations for two annual awards
This month, the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) is seeking nominations for two awards to honor community volunteers.
The 2007 Teresa S. Ruhland Youth Award is given annually to a resident of Minneapolis who volunteers to get youth involved in the community. Submissions should include a brief essay on how the nominee’s involvement has improved the quality of life for people with whom they volunteer, taking into consideration the ways in which the nominee has worked with youth to address community problems through crime prevention, safety education and to strengthen the community overall. Nominations are due Jan. 29. Self-nominations are welcome.
Nominations are also being accepted for the annual Building Blocks Awards, through Jan. 15. The awards honor the city’s most active and effective block clubs. All block clubs that did not win this award last year are eligible to apply. To submit a Building Blocks nomination, or to learn more about either award, visit www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/newsroom and click on “December 2007.” For more information, call 612-673-2786.
