Police department releases neighborhood crime statistics for September
The Minneapolis Police Department has released the city’s CODEFOR crime statistics for September, and for Bridgeland neighborhoods, they show crime rates that have remained unchanged for the most part, with a few exceptions.
Here’s a breakdown by neighborhood, comparing the Sept. 2007 statistics to both Aug. 2007 and Sept. 2006:
_Cedar-Riverside:_Total crime numbers in Cedar-Riverside for September were little changed, going from 53 CODEFOR crimes in Aug. 2007 to 51 in September. There were changes in totals for specific crime types, however. Burglaries, for example, went down significantly, going from 8 in August to just 1 in September, and motor vehicle thefts also dropped from 13 to 8. Assaults went up, from 2 to 6, as did thefts, rising from 24 to 28. Total crime numbers for the neighborhood are down from one year ago; in September 2006, there were 61 CODEFOR crimes, including 15 motor vehicle thefts.
_Como:_Crime numbers for Como in Sept. 2007 were almost identifical to the crime numbers in August, which is somewhat surprising considering the start of the school year. In Sept. 07, there were 30 CODEFOR crimes, up from 29 in August. The most common crimes were burglary (13 in Sept., 12 in Aug.) and theft (12 in Sept., 13 in Aug.). In Sept. 2006, there were 24 crimes, including 3 robberies (1 in Sept. 07), 4 assaults (1 in Sept. 07) and 10 thefts.
_Cooper:_Crime numbers in the Cooper neighborhood went down significantly from August to September, dropping from 23 total CODEFOR crimes to 12. The decreases came mainly in theft (down from 15 to 9) and burglary (down from 5 to 3). One year ago there were 14 CODEFOR crimes in Cooper, including 5 burglaries.
_Downtown East:_Crime numbers for the Downtown East neighborhood were up somewhat from Aug. to Sept. 2007, going from 21 to 27. The reason for the increase was a jump in thefts, which rose from 16 to 24. By comparison, in Sept. 2006, there were 23 CODEFOR crimes committeed in the Downtown East neighborhood, including 19 thefts.
_Marcy-Holmes:_Crime numbers in Marcy-Holmes stayed much the same from Aug. to Sept. 2007, going from 61 CODEFOR crimes to 64. Thefts were up significantly, going from 26 to 35; auto thefts also rose, going from 5 to 9, as did assaults, which went from 2 to 6. Burglaries, however, dropped by more than 50%, going from 27 in Aug. to 12 in Sept. 2007. In Sept. 2006, by comparison, there were 65 CODEFOR crimes committed, including 20 burglaries, 32 thefts, and 7 auto thefts.
_Nicollet Island-East Bank:_Crime rates in the Nicollet Island-East Bank area fell somewhat in Sept. 2007, when there were 17 CODEFOR crimes, compared to 22 in August. The decrease came in thefts, which declined from 15 in August to 9 in September. The Sept. 2007 numbers represent an increase from Sept. 2006, however, when there were 10 CODEFOR crimes, including 5 burglaries and 4 thefts.
_Prospect Park:_In Prospect Park, crime numbers went up slightly from Aug. to Sept. 2007, going from 49 CODEFOR crimes to 55. The increase came from a change in the number of assaults (from 0 to 2), burglaries (from 11 to 13) and auto thefts (from 3 to 8). The number of thefts went down slightly, going from 34 to 31. By comparison, in Sept. 2006 the number of CODEFOR crimes was significantly lower, at 39, including 10 burglaries and 22 thefts.
_Seward:_Crime numbers in Seward went down from Aug. 2007 to Sept. 2007, going from 64 CODEFOR crimes to 58.
