Augsburg hosts inaugural exhibit at new Oren Gateway Center during seven-college art crawl

Augsburg College celebrates the new Gage Family Art Gallery, in the recently opened Oren Gateway Center, with the exhibit “Glass from the American Swedish Institute and Its Local Influence.”

The exhibit features more than 30 pieces of glass, on loan from the American Swedish Institute, including both traditional and contemporary artworks from leading designers as well as local glassmakers.

The exhibit opens Thursday, Sept. 14 and runs through Oct. 26. An artist talk featuring Andrea C. Blum and Warren K. Olson, co-curators of Augsburg’s Swedish glass exhibition, will take place Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.

The artist talk coincides with the College Art Gallery Collaborative’s 4th annual Fall Art Tour, a seven-college tour of local galleries, 5–8 p.m. A free shuttle bus will travel between Augsburg and six other local campuses. For more information, visit http://www.stkate.edu/fallarttour.

The Gage Family Art Gallery is located on the first level of the Oren Gateway Center, at the corner of 22nd Avenue South and Riverside Avenue. The gallery is open Monday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. For more information, visit www.augsburg.edu/galleries or www.americanswedishinst.org.

The new Oren Gateway Building opened in August and features the Gage Gallery, retail space — including a Barnes and Noble bookstore and Nabo neighborhood café — administrative offices, classrooms, a conference center and student housing.
