Homicide at University-area Radisson

Victim not affiliated with U, police say

A woman was found dead of an apparent a gunshot wound Monday, Aug. 6 in a hotel room at the Radisson University Hotel — Minneapolis.

University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD) were the first responders at the scene, and the Minneapolis Police Department’s (MPD) Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case.

The MPD has not released the name of the victim, whose death is being treated as a homicide. Police did say in a public safety alert email to students and personnel on Aug. 7 that “it does not appear that the victim is affiliated with the University of Minnesota.”

“[The victim’s name] doesn’t appear in the staff or student directory,” Greg Hestness, chief of police for the University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD) told The Bridge Tuesday afternoon.

The Radisson, 615 University Ave. SE, is located just a few hundred feet from the headquarters of the UMPD.

The manager on duty at the Radisson the day after the shooting called the woman’s death “an isolated incident” and said the hotel is continuing to work with police in what is classified as an “open investigation.” The hotel is open for normal operation.

Anyone with information about the case should contact the Minneapolis Police Department TIPS line at 612-692-8477.
