Park Board seeks public comment on Comprehensive Plan

Open houses scheduled during public comment period

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) has completed a draft of its Comprehensive Plan, intended to “[set] a vision for the future of the Minneapolis park system,” according to an MPRB press release.
The draft is available for public review July 16¬–Aug. 3, and will be the topic of public comment on July 17, 19 and 24 (see times and locations below), as well as at the Park Board planning committee meeting on Aug. 15 at 2117 West River Road (no time is given on the release or the Park Board’s website.)

To draft the Comprehensive Plan, the Park Board surveyed city residents, park users and local elected officials about the city’s park and recreation needs to determine top community park and recreation needs. The process included a questionnaire mailed to 172,300 households, town meetings, focus groups, appointed community leader workshops and a statistically valid phone survey, states the release.

The plan, which is available at www.minneapolisparks.org, and copies will be available for review at MPRB recreation centers, district offices and golf courses and Minneapolis public libraries. Those wishing to comment may use the comment cards provided or the comment online at www.minneapolisparks.org.

Written comments received during the public comment period will become part of the official record, states the release, and “the final version of the MPRB Comprehensive Plan may be modified as a result of the comments received during the public review period.” The final draft will be submitted to the Park Board this fall for approval.
