Screening of “Sex Ed & the State” Tonight– Oak Street Cinema, 7 p.m.

Oak Street Cinema Closes for Summer– Two Events Remain

The Oak Street Cinema, 309 SE Oak St., announced it is closed for business for the next two months, due to the massive construction work for the new University of Minnesota football stadium. The theater is slated to reopen after Labor Day.

Despite the closure, two events at the cinema will proceed as scheduled.

Sex Ed and the State is a documentary about sexuality education in Minnesota public schools and how the issue is handled by the state legislature. The film is sponsored by the Healthy Youth Development Prevention Research Center at the University of Minnesota.

The free encore presentation of this documentary takes place at the Oak Street Cinema, Tues., July 10, at 7 p.m.

Snuff: A documentary about killing on camera “examines the existence of films where people are murdered on camera and the culture that surrounds said films.” The film is recommended for mature audiences, due to the graphic nature of its content. Following the screening, filmmaker Paul Von Stoetzel will take part in a Q & A session. An after party with free food and drinks will take place at Stub & Herb’s, across the street from the theater.

The event takes place Wed., July 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Oak Street Cinema. General admission is $9, or $7 for students.
