City, SECIA consider uses for Tuttle building
Now that Tuttle School has closed, the next decision revolves around what is to be done with the building. The Minneapolis School Board has hired outside consultants to “repurpose” 12 currently unoccupied former school buildings, including Tuttle. Recommendations are expected by mid-October.
A June 19 Star Tribune article reported that the School Board is considering leasing space in vacant buildings to charter schools, including Oh Day Aki School — also known as Heart of the Earth — a K–12 charter school in Southeast. The article did not specifically mention the Tuttle building.
The Southeast Como Improvement Association (SECIA) has conducted preliminary brainstorming sessions on possible uses for the building, as well, and SECIA is looking for community involvement in the process. If you have any ideas, or would like to attend the next meeting to discuss Tuttle, please email Jennifer at resource@secomo.org or call 612-676-1731.
