Central Corridor — and Bridge coverage — are flawed
The front page headline story in the May issue of The Bridge, titled Envisioning the Central Corridor, is boosterism disguised as reporting. It is unfortunate that The Bridge has stooped to the level of reprinting propaganda gleaned from the glossy brochures pumped out by the Met Council.
The concrete project on University and Washington Avenues follows the Highway 55 road construction project, including the ugly, eight-lane, motorway-hellhole, pedestrian-wasteland mess at the Lake Street intersection, the major reduction in bus service on Cedar and Minnehaha Avenues, and the awful Highway bypass running through Minnehaha Park connecting 54th Street to the River Road.
The 40-yard-wide strip of concrete on University Avenue is not a public transit project. Like the Highway 55 project, the proposed road construction on University and Washington Avenues is nothing more than another MNDOT, Met Council, City, County and University of Minnesota traffic “engineering” concrete project.
